QNX at Hack The 6ix

QNX is thrilled to be sponsoring Hack The 6ix in Toronto this year. If you are participating, we'll see you there!

QNX at Hack The 6ix

The team and I are very excited to attend Hack The 6ix next week and to meet all of the participants! This is a long-running Toronto summer event that promises to bring out tons of student talent.

As with other hackathons this year, QNX is bringing a challenge (with a healthy prize!): what can you make with QNX in one weekend?

Here are some thought prompts to kickstart your brainstorming:

  • Can you make something that moves and accomplishes a goal?
  • Can you prototype an industrial control system?
  • Can you prototype a hardware solution to a real-world problem?
  • Can you create an entertaining game or physical challenge?
  • Can you port an open-source Linux utility or library to QNX and show a running demo?
  • Can you create an interesting prototype dashboard for industrial control or automation?
  • Can you create some other useful UI running on QNX? (Available frameworks include QT, GTK, Godot, etc, plus core QNX Screen API.)

To help you succeed, we're bringing a pile of loaner Raspberry Pi 4B kits, plus cameras, robot platforms, hardware components, and more! And we've assembled a group of QNX team members to hang out all weekend to help you if you get stuck.

Tips for Getting Started

These links point you to the things you'll need to get started with QNX development and the QNX OS on Raspberry Pi.

  1. Get a free QNX developer license: qnx.com/getqnx
  2. Quickstart: Five Steps to Developing a QNX OS Program
  3. Quickstart: QNX Toolkit for VS Code (and optionally: How to use macOS to develop for QNX 8.0)
  4. QNX on Raspberry Pi Documentation

Keep an eye out (in a couple of weeks) for a recap post covering some of the submissions to the QNX challenge!

Happy Hacking!
