QNX Everywhere September Release: New Docs, Linux Porting Guide, and QNX 8.0.3!

This post comes from Shweta Mazumder, a Product Manager working on QNX Everywhere. She is new to the QNX team, and brings with her some solid experience in building products that delight her customers.

We are excited to announce the latest software release from the QNX Everywhere program! This release brings some high-level changes designed to elevate your development experience. Let’s dive into what’s new!

Brand new QNX Everywhere documentation

The team has worked hard to consolidate all of the documentation relating to getting started, quick start target images, custom images, porting, and more, into one convenient spot. In addition, we've added a whole new Linux Porting Guide.

Introducing the Linux Porting Guide

Porting applications from Linux to QNX is now more straightforward than ever. We’ve written tons of great content to help you port your favorite applications, libraries, and utilities to QNX. This guide offers comprehensive instructions and tips to help you transition your applications seamlessly. The open-source team at QNX is open to adding more content – please let us know what's missing!

Quick Start Target Image and Custom Target Image updates

We’ve upgraded both the Quick Start Target Image (QSTI) package and the Custom Target Image (CTI) repository for Raspberry Pi 4B to use the new QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) version 8.0.3. This ensures you benefit from the latest functionalities of SDP 8.0.3.

We've snuck in some other enchancements to the Quick Start Target Image:

  • The Python package manager (PIP) is now installed by default on the QSTI. This means you can start installing and managing compatible Python packages immediately, streamlining your development set up process.
  • We’ve implemented keyboard-only navigation, allowing you to move through the QSTI without the need for a mouse. Press Tab on the welcome screen to navigate between the launcher icons.
  • We’ve added a new QNX boot animation before the window manager launches. And we all know that means your project instantly gets cooler! 😎

That's it for September.. Next update coming in October! 🥧🖐️‼️🤫

We very much want to hear your feedback! Please come discuss this release on Reddit @ r/qnx or leave a comment here with your thoughts.
